Team. The Team trains in Optimists, Lasers, and 420s.

We are seeking a qualified coach to help our Laser, C420 and Optimists teams take a big leap

forward technically while maintaining their passion for the sport.

Background: The program began in 2009 and was so successful that the CBSC we enjoy today,

is a large part what it is because it grew around the journey that the first generation of Sailing

Team sailors travelled. Those sailors not only produced many individual podium results, they

also took home overall BC circuit awards. Most importantly, they nearly all went on to become

lifelong sailors, pursuing either careers or hobbies in our sport.

Since those early years, everything, from boats to docks have been added to the club and the

infrastructure is now in place to create a sustainable winning program for this and future

generations of sailors in our club.

Last season saw 37 sailors registered with the Sailing Team and we look forward to

building on the size and success this coming year!

The Sailing Teams are scheduled to compete in local, regional, provincial and national

competitions depending on their fleet and experience in 2023.

The Sailing Team Senior Coach reports directly to the Sailing Team Director. The Sailing Team

Coach undertakes operational planning, administration, communication, facilitation and most

importantly coaching for the Sailing Team programs.

In addition to the primary role of Coaching the Sailing Team, the successful candidate will also

be required to share their passion for sailing by coaching CAN Sail and other Learn to Sail

programs as scheduling requires for the benefit of the club and community.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Coaching athletes to improve their sailing and racing abilities

• Promote the philosophy of sport for life

• Club membership promotion and participant recruitment

• Communicate program requirements with athletes regularly

• Respond to CBSC Sailing Team communications and queries

• Support other sailing coaches as needed

• Coordination and planning support for regattas and other events involving the Sailing Team

• Attend monthly Board Meetings when requested

Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

Coach

• Excellent time-management and organizational skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Detail-oriented and efficient

• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills

• Be familiar with and knowledgeable of the CBSC Emergency Action Plan, Safety Procedure,
