2023 ADULT SAILING PROGRAMS
If you are not sure yet whether dinghy sailing is for you, try our Discover Sailing program. Are you really keen to become a sailor and want to build your basic skills? Sign up for our Adult CANsail 1 courses that run each month throughout the season. Starting May 1, 2023.
Have you taken some courses and feel ready to work up to a level where you qualify to take our boats out on your own as a member? Sign up for CANsail 2!
Are you wanting to build confidence and maybe try some dinghy racing? Stay tuned for our 2023 recreation sailing night on Thursday evenings.
If you are an experienced sailor new to our club and you don’t think you need a course to get certified, please contact our coordinator at coordinator@comoxbaysailingclub.ca and we will help you find the best way to get cleared for club boat and kayak use.
If keelboats are your thing, our club offers bi-weekly racing over the year and it is a great place to learn from experienced skippers in an inclusive and competitive environment. Sign up as a Basic member and join the crew availability list!
Reminder: A BASIC INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP at a minimum, is required prior to signing up for all Sailing School Programs. For more information on how to register see our FAQ page.

Cancellation Policy: Full refund less a $10 fee if cancelled with more than 4 weeks notice. If less than 4 weeks, and more than 1 week, full refund less a $25 processing fee. Short term cancellations will be considered for reasons of illness or family emergency on a case by case basis. If we have to cancel a course for whatever reason, a full refund will be issued.
Unpaid Registration Policy: Registrations that remain unpaid 7 days prior to course commencement will be offered to the waitlist.
ADULT SAILING – AGE 18+
Our CANsail1&2 courses run congruently, Sign up for consecutive courses if you know you want to achieve a higher level. Sign up with a friend or family member for boat sharing, or we will pair you up with a partner for the course. CANsail 2 candidates will have the opportunity to sail singlehanded.

Adult CANsail 1
This course is geared towards sailors who want to learn or work on basic skills. You will sail with your partner and explore Comox Bay perfecting your ability to steer the boat and trim the sails. The focus is to get time on the water and learn as you go.

Adult CANsail 2
Sign up for this course if you have achieved your CANsail 1 (or equivalent) and want to reach the level of certification required to take out our club boats as a member. On this course you will refine your skills on different points of sail, tune up your tacks and gybes and practice self-rescue techniques to increase your confidence.

DISCOVER SAILING-ADULT
For folks who are trying something new. Not sure if sailing is for you? Try it out with this short affordable course This is a course for adults to get a taste of sailing. You will learn some basic terminology and how to rig the boats, that is, set them up to go sailing. You will get a feeling of sailing with some on water time under direct coach supervision. Sign up with a friend or family member for boat sharing, or we will pair you up with a partner for the course. This course is for people with little or no sailing experience. This course does not provide any certification.

RECREATIONAL SAILING NIGHT
This offering is for full member adult sailors who have taken lessons and have dinghy sailing experience. Maybe it has been a while or maybe you just completed one of our CANsail courses. This is a great way to get out and practice your skills with coach supervision rather than instruction. Prerequisite, Cansail2 or equivalent.
Recreational sailing will run on a drop-in basis, you will need to reserve a boat if you don't have your own. Details on how to reserve coming soon.
Sessions will run in May and June on a week by week basis. Check the Let's Sail WhatsApp group for announcements each week.
Spring and Summer 2023
Thursdays 5:00 - 7:00pm Apr 4 - Aug 31 no charge - full members only
If you've gained experience in a different class of dinghy or prior to joining our club, you can book a familiarisation session on Recreational Sailing Nights. One of our coaches will show you where we store equipment, how to rig either a Laser or C420, assess your ability to right a boat and provide local knowledge of our bay. Requires CANsail 2 or equivalent.
Sessions are reservable 14 days in advance and to ensure coach availability, must be made 2 days prior.

If you've gained paddling experience prior to joining our club, you can book a familiarisation session on Recreational Sailing Nights. One of our coaches will show you where we store equipment and assess your ability to right a boat and provide local knowledge of our bay. These sessions are for sit-on-top kayaks.
Sessions are reservable 14 days in advance and to ensure coach availability, must be made 2 days prior.

Please cancel if you're not able to make your time so that other members can book the spot. Logistically, it is not possible to combine a sail and kayak session.
PRIVATE LESSON
Two hour minimum booking, max 4 students. Contact our coordinator (coordinator@comoxbaysailingclub.ca) for available times and dates for booking.
2 hr min, $120 (+ membership)
Additional hours, $60/hr
